Earliest proudest moments of using his creative talents include; A prize winning proposal for his design, for the planning and redevelopment of Kings cross & St Pancras area in London, a competition with his primary school. The design included saving Camley street nature reserve, implementing more green spaces and interactive sights including a natural outdoor swimming pond and a fountain. His passion for nature working in symbiosis with the city and urban landscape has been one of the main arteries within his work. From a young age, Ben has been gardening, seeding wildflowers on abandoned land locally in the heart of Camden Town and has been learning everyday about plants and flowers and funghi, especially roses from his grandmother who worked as a landgirl in the second world war.
Later, studying Art, Design & Sculpture with a specialism in Illustration, Ben has managed to combine his passions to create and conceive some original and thought provoking ideas and pieces. Notably for his end of year exhibition at Camberwell in 1997 his green-wall piece, which included a wooden wall mounted framed box containing moss & grass turf, with wildflowers growing in geometric patterns. the grass was held in place with mesh and could be watered from the top of the box frame with rainwater which was gathered in a shallow hidden gutter. Since then Green walls have become an attractive and practical solution to air pollution throughout cities across the globe with specific advanced engineered frames including metered and timed irrigation.
Ben has recently been focusing on his metalwork, specialising as a Finisher, Welder and fabricator. Working with aluminium, steel & stainless steel, core-ten and most recently bronze. Specialising in public sculpture and private commissions as an artisan Ben has been enabling, sculptors and artists to create their work. Gaining a wide spectrum of skills and experience, he has currently been bringing his own ideas into fruition.
